It is a sad fact that the vast majority of people in the UK do not perform the weekly Government recommended amount of physical activity.
Almost everyone knows that regular exercise is good for their health as it reduces the risk of many diseases including heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes.
So why do so few people manage to exercise regularly?
There’s no clear cut answer to this question, but it seems that people now place less emphasis on maintaining their health than they do on other aspects of their life such as finance and family.
Yet we all know that without good health the other aspects of our lives such as finance and family cannot flourish.
There’s no denying that exercising regularly takes effort and motivation, and many people struggle to find the motivation to make exercise part of their everyday lives.
In today’s busy society where spare time is often scarce, exercise is usually placed fairly low down on the ladder when it comes to priority. It is often not until a person gets a health scare, such as a heart attack, that they realize how truly important their health is and find the motivation to exercise.
Despite many Government campaigns aimed at raising the awareness of the importance of physical activity, little gains have been made in terms of the number of people that exercise regularly.
Ultimately, the UK Government cannot force people to exercise, they can only encourage people to take responsibility for their own health.
So far the message seems to be getting lost!
