Yoga Undressed – Taking the concept of ‘spiritual exercise’ to new freedoms! From ‘hot’ yoga to Bikram yoga we can’t deny that yoga has really taken off in recent years as people of all ages and fitness levels reap the benefits this unique form of exercise has on our physical and mental wellbeing.
But how would you feel about participating in ‘naked yoga’? Yes that’s performing yoga moves whilst completely in the buff!
This new phenomena is being advocated by New York City wellness and lifestyle expert Jennifer Kries, who is best known for leading for Pilates craze the contemporary world of fitness is now firmly entrenched in.
Referring to ‘liberating’ effects of ‘naked yoga’, which is ‘similar to skinny dippy except that you’re swimming in air,’ Ms Kries told the Toronto Sun:
“It’s really liberating – not having any constraints and really being able to feel your body as you move through the poses.
“It’s not a sexual thing. It’s much higher than that, and deeper. It’s very sacred, reverent and spiritual. It’s really about self-acceptance and love.”
It what has been described as being “a flowing Vinyasa Tantric practice combining Kundalini and Hatha styles,” Kries new Naked Yoga DVD features several female yoga instructors performing yoga moves with nothing on.
The DVD, entitled, “Yoga Undressed: The Goddess”, is available in a series of four – advanced, intermediate, beginner and duet. Kries emphasises that the women who feature in the DVD aren’t models but are extremely fit.
One of the principles of yoga which makes it unique from other forms of exercise is that it is specifically aimed for spiritual wellbeing as well as physical and increases feelings of wellbeing in the mind. According to Kries ‘naked yoga’ takes the concept of yoga being a spiritual practice one step further.
“For me, yoga is a spiritual practice. It’s my lifeline to my innermost self and my connection to spirit,” Kries told he Toronto Sun.
“The DVDs are intended for people to discover themselves in the privacy of their own homes. It’s all about being able to love and accept yourself whether you feel a little overweight or not exactly as fit or as buff as you’d like to be,” the yoga expert continued.
Although exercising in your birthday suit may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the Yoga Undressed series certainly sounds intriguing!
