I admired someone like Darren Gough for the energy and enthusiasm he brought to the game, plus he was a half decent bowler!!!
How do you keep yourself in shape when you aren’t playing?
I follow a fitness programme put together by the ECB medical team, and I work closely with the Strength & Conditioning coach at Lancashire.
What has been the highlight of your career?
Both the Ashes wins I was involved in in 2009 and 2010/11

New devices that could save patients and doctors time and money.
Forget your smartphones and your iPads, as it is the health service that is the latest sector to be receiving a technological revamp, with a series of devices that are being designed to improve health care and save both patients and the health industry time and money.
According to a recent study carried out by professors and students at the Medical Electronic Device Realization Center (MEDRC) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, every year Americans are throwing away $33 million on unnecessary complete blood cell counts during routine check-ups.
According to a report on ABC News, in order to, not only reduce the waiting time for results, but to also lower the cost of routine blood screenings, the MEDRC is routing blood cells through a chip with electricity that are able to manoeuvre blood cells in every direction.
In inaugurating such a process, the device would only use one drop of blood as opposed to a whole vial in certain blood tests, which would consequently mean that that patients would get the results in minutes and it would significantly reduce costly lab work.
On top of routing blood cells electronically with a chip to save time and money, MEDRC researchers are also in the process of developing a wearable vitals monitor, which effectively monitors blood pressure at the neck instead of the arm.

Magnetic treatments, such as magnetic bracelets and Magnetic Field Therapy, has long been associated and established as being a viable method to treat conditions such as arthritis and sciatica, as well as helping sportsmen and women overcome injuries.
Using magnetic therapy for headaches and migraines is however less well documented and established.
Magnets stimulate hormone production in the body and in doing so can be effective in soothing and even preventing headaches and migraines.
If magnets are placed within close proximity to the head, tiny electro-magnetic pulses are generated by the magnetic field, which will produce increased electric activity within the brain.
By stimulating activity within the brain a greater production of hormones are produced, explicitly melatonin and serotonin. Whilst the hormone melatonin is responsible for maintaining our body’s internal clock, serotonin controls our mood.
Individuals who are lacking these mood-controlling hormones can often suffer from conditions such as insomnia, depression, stress, seasonal dysfunction disorder, and headaches and migraines.

From promoting healthier looking skin to improving blood circulation to preventing the onset of osteoporosis, the shelves of pharmacies, health shops and supermarkets are literally brimming with colourful vitamins and supplements of all shapes and sizes.
Knowing whether you actually need to take a vitamin supplement and knowing which supplements you may need to take is, for any average healthy individual, is a mind-boggling task.
To help you determine whether or not you may require a vitamin to supplement your diet, we’ve compiled a list on what the essential vitamins do and whether or not you may benefit from taking them, a guide on what vitamin supplements should you take and when.
Vitamin B – Vitamin B comes in a complex of eight vitamins, which essentially gives our immune system a boost, enhances energy levels and regulates our mood. It is advised that healthy, meat-eating men should avoid taking a vitamin B supplement, as getting too much B9 has been linked to prostate cancer.
Vegetarians, on the other hand, are advised to take a vitamin B12 supplement to ensure they are getting some of the vital nutrients they may miss by not eating meat.
Vitamin D – Vitamin D can help fight various health conditions such as depression, fatigue, some forms of cancer and heart disease. Although be warned, taking a vitamin D supplement has been linked to both pancreatic and prostate cancer in men and it is advisable to get a daily intake of vitamin D by eating foods that are a rich source of this vitamin, such as eggs, cheese, mushrooms, sardines and salmon.
As the sun also provides us with a source of vitamin D, if you are suffering from a condition such as fatigue or depression, a daily dose of sun may help lift your mood.
Vitamin A – Vitamin A helps to promote good eyesight as well as building our immune systems. Whilst it is advised not to take a vitamin A supplement for too long, as it has been linked to liver damage and most of us get enough vitamin A in our diet, if your immune system or eyesight does seem weak, you could take a course of vitamin A supplements to help give both a bit of a boost!

Eating too much fast food is synonymous with having an oversized waist, causing the scales to rocket, and being a heart attack waiting to happen.
Although if you finding it difficult to curb visits to the likes of Kentucky Fried Chicken, MacDonald’s and Burger King then don’t despair, as not all fast food is an unhealthy as you might think.
What?!! Can fast food be healthy? Take a look at how to make a lunchtime trip to your favourite fast food restaurant a tad healthier than before.
McDonalds – Avoiding walking through the doors of the world’s most popular fast food chain can be hard to resist but it doesn’t necessarily mean doom and gloom in the health stakes!
Exchange a Big Mac meal for a Grilled Chicken and Bacon Salad. This healthy low-fat option is bursting with vitamins from the salad yet still contains plenty of delicious flavour from the grilled chicken and crispy bacon!
Kentucky Fried Chicken – Wraps contain fewer calories than bread buns and are generally regarded as being healthier. You can still get your KFC fix but instead of asking for fried chicken, fries and a coke, order a Brazer Twister Wrap.
This marinated grilled chicken comes with salad on a wrap and contains comparatively fewer calories. Ditch the fries completely and swap a regular coke for a light one!
Burger King – A Burger King Whopper with Cheese meal can be hard to resist but may be made significantly easier when you are told that swapping it for a Chilli Chicken Wrap would save you 67 grams of fat and 971 calories.
On top of being considerably lower in fat and containing a higher nutritional value, the Chilli Chicken Wrap has a high water content, meaning that we feel fuller up quicker.
